The Big Air Chur Festival does not only combine sports and music in one event, we also want to focus on the care for the environment! That’s why a sustainable development of our festival lies especially close to our hearts. In addition to ecological and economic sustainability strategies, we also place specific emphasis on social sustainability. The focus lies on the continuous support, further development and realization of the following sustainability measures – for an environmentally conscious festival attendance and a sustainable future for our environment.

Ecological sustainability

Ecological footprint

To minimize our environmental footprint, we are pursuing the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.

Support of public transport Through partnerships with the SBB, we offer all festival visitors a 20% discount on train tickets, provide free shuttle buses and extra trains, and thus support the use of public transport for traveling to the festival.

Use existing infrastructure

For the event, we use the existing infrastructure on the Obere Au in Chur wherever possible, such as existing lines of fresh water and waste water, in order to keep CO2 emissions from transport as low as possible.

Diverse food options At our festival we have increased vegetarian and vegan food options.

Recycling systems

Through recycling systems for festival visitors as well as bars and food stalls, we focus on waste separation and minimization throughout the festival.

Further measures Other measures include automatic handle sets to reduce water usage, a ban on physical flyers and continued reductions in plastic.

Economic sustainability

Green energy

We are increasingly relying on green energy at the festival and constantly developing concepts of green technologies.

Stay local We buy locally whenever possible. Gastronomy businesses at the festival are sensitized and encouraged in locality, furthermore our focus lies on local food offerings.

Saving power usage

Accurate electricity demand plans and efficient usage have a cost and resource saving effect on electricity usage. Focus on energy-efficient equipment and raise awareness among partners and technicians.

Minimization of food waste

With the sensitization and various sustainability requirements for catering businesses at the Big Air Chur, the minimization of food waste is always prioritized.

Social sustainability

Awareness

Through our awareness concept, we promote social sustainability with specific, anti-discriminatory awareness communication and direct sensitization of employees and festival visitors. This is complemented by information, safety and counseling services at the festival.

Gender equality

Gender equality is a major concern for us and is implemented at all times in internal company structures and as a guiding principle of the event.

Sensitization

By raising awareness among employees, suppliers and partners, our sustainability strategy is passed on in the areas of economy, ecology and social sustainability and realized in joint implementation.

Inclusion and accessibility We design our event to be as accessible and inclusive as possible. This includes the continuous adaptation of infrastructure, as well as promoting inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities.

Sustainability communication Through active sustainability communication, we promote a sustainable community which is encouraged to plan a sustainable festival visit. This includes information, suggestions, and surveys before, during and after the event. The focus lies on activating different ways in which our visitors can support us in our sustainability strategy.
